A trustee of the South Indian Education Society stated, that major universities and academic institutions in the country have drawn inspiration from life like huge idols in their campuses. A well-thought proposal to consecrate Lord Hanuman at the academic complex, Nerul was conceived, since it was felt there could be no other who could be as inspiring to the youth of today as Lord Hanuman.

Hanuman is considered one of the most enchanting figures of our Puranas. Be He called Anjaneya, Hanuman or Bajrang Bali. Millions all over the world seek HIM for solace in times of trouble, courage to face the world, and determination to achieve the impossible.

The tallest monolithic granite idol of Hanuman in the country

Viswaroopa Anjaneya Swami, Nerul, Navi Mumbai The thirty-three feet idol, "Vishwaroopa Anjaneya Swamy", in a standing posture, is made out of a single granite stone specially selected for the purpose, under the guidance of the Kanchi Seers by "Silpa Kalamani" M.Muthiah Sthapathi from Chennai, a renowned sculptor who specialises in carving of granite stone idols according to shilpa shastras. It took one year to complete and it weighs fifty-five tons.

The Hanuman idol

The Hanuman idol was made near Chennai and was transported by road. The idol stands on a lotus pedestal, with hands folded in prayer, and eyes are seen in meditation. He wears kundalam in His ears, keuryaha (armlet), three kankanas (bangles), and thandai in His lotus feet. His lankulam is seen resting on the ground giving a picture of a perfect pious person though highly talented in all qualities. Who else could be an exemplary for the youth of today who are studying in this complex.

Darshan of this magnanimous work of the sculpture, Lord Anjaneya in a pious pose standing tall in the backdrop of the mountains and green lashes is sure to give us self-confidence and piousness.

Recent additions

Recently Sannadhi for Lord Rama had also been built in the complex. A tall towering mandap as shelter for Lord Anjaneya had also been built.

Maha Athirudram and Chandi yagna were performed from 26th January 2000 and the thirty-three feet idol of 'Lord Hanuman', the tallest in the country was consecrated by Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Jagath Guru Sri Jayendra Saraswati Sankaracharya Swamigal, Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Jagath Guru Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi Sankaracharya Swamigal on February 9, 2000, at the Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati Vidyapuram, Nerul.

Maharudra Mahayagnam and Hanuman Jayanti were celebrated from the 25th to 28th of December 2000 at the academic complex.

Rajatha Kavacha Dharanam (Silver Kavacham adornment) for this Bhakta Anjaneya was performed in the benign presence of His Holiness Jgadguru Sankaracharya of Kanch Kamakoti Peetam Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal on 28th of December 2000.
